Grits Grill

Grits Grill is about as straightforward and sincere a breakfast restaurant as you could possibly ask for. Nothing fancy here, Grits Grill delivers the goods: old-fashioned southern-style breakfast items, including pancakes, waffles, egg omelets, and more.

The prices are very affordable. Grits Grill borrows heavily from the old American diner design, with a big metal countertop bar and bold black and white colors. Grits Grill is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day.

Sam & Omie’s Restaurant

Sam & Omie’s is a popular local fishing dining haven. The location has close proximity to the ocean and deep-rooted fishing culture. Local fishermen have been coming here for generations to grab some traditional breakfast quick appetizer bites and burgers.

Sam & Omie’s are closed on Wednesday, but open and serving breakfast from 8am to 9pm on every other day. On Sunday they are open 8am to 3pm. They do also close for the winter season, and typically open back up in March.

The Dunes Restaurant

For over 30 years, the Dunes Restaurant has been an iconic centerpiece for Nag’s Head. The seafaring tradition- dine at Dunes, fish for a day, – still rings true.

The breakfast menu includes a little piece of everything, including fresh fruit, ham and biscuits, a Belgian Waffle, buttermilk pancakes, and a whole assortment of omelets.

You can take a big ol’ bite out of the Western Omelette or the Crab & Jack Omelette, or take it on over to the Farmer’s Vegetarian Omelette or the Popeye Omelette so you can best prepare for the day ahead.

Dunes is where you need to be for a massive breakfast by the water. The diner also offers a varied dinner menu of seafood, burgers, and more. You can find the doors wide open from 7 a.m. to noon Wednesday-Friday and 7 am. to 12:30 pm. on weekends.

Duck Donuts

Looking for something cozy, casual, and quick? Duck Donuts is the de-facto donut spot in the Outer Banks. Firstly, Duck Donuts has a featured donut of the day, so stop by periodically to see new treats and offerings.

You will find coffee and espresso as well as sandwiches and sundaes at Ducks. If you want donuts and some quick coffee, Duck Donuts is one of the most popular options out of all Outer Banks restaurants.

Duck Donuts is open from 7:00 a.m. to 1 p.m every day of the week.

Waveriders Coffee & Deli

The best thing about this place is that they have one of the most extensive local selections of breakfast sandwiches, in addition to excellent options for other breakfast favorites. Go for popular selections like the BLT, Breakfast Bowl, Bagel with Spread, or Bruce’s Burrito. In addition, they offer delicious coffee drinks at their coffee and espresso bar, as well as smoothies for cooling off on a hot day. For the adults in your group, consider grabbing some beer or wine to enjoy later on in the day while you’re here!  

They are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. But they are open every other day of the week between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Stack ‘Em High Pancakes and So Forth

Stack ‘Em High Pancakes and So Forth is a special place for food —- they are specialists when it’s time for breakfast. 

That’s not even all; this family-owned business has some of the best short stack-style pancakes that you could ever stick your fork into. They’re the best in town, and if you are worried about your health, they even offer the option of sugar-free syrup. Just be sure to request it. They open every day but Wednesday, and their hours are 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

Front Porch Café

The Front Porch Café is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and they offer a variety of coffees, lattes, and even a bite to eat! On the menu are breakfast dishes like spinach and feta croissant, apple turnover, muffins, bagels, and more! All of this has made Front Porch Cafe a popular place to grab a nice cup of coffee, and a good breakfast to start your day.
