Toad Hall was the last cottage designed and built by famed Outer Banks architect Stephen Twine yet it is modern, well-equipped, comfortable, and convenient. One of our most popular cottages, it is nearly surrounded by the 500 acre Jockey's Ridge State Park Natural Area and only 400 feet from one of the most beautiful stretch of sound-shore beach of the entire Outer Banks. Toad Hall is a great location for wind-surfers, kite-boarders, kayakers, hang-gliders, bird-watchers and nature lovers of every variety - or those who simply appreciate open space. The large "dune deck" offers an unparalleled view of Jockey's Ridge State Park. The Sound shore near Toad Hall is a great place for kids to play and for parents to relax. The shallow sound waters don't have the currents and waves of the ocean and we never have "red flag" days! The sound is also excellent for sail boats, kayaks, kite boards, paddleboards, or just about any type of personal watercraft. Plus your pets can enjoy the calm shallow waters. Jockeys Ridge State Park is 500 acres of natural open space preserving the East Coast's highest sand-dune. The dunes offer abundant wildlife, spectacular views, hang gliding, and kite flying. All that open space makes a wonderful and safe playground in the busy summer season.

Toad Hall is a quintessential Outer Banks experience. The house has wrap around porches where we could swing, eat at a picnic table, and have coffee in the upstairs deck overlooking the dunes of the Jockey State Park every beautiful Spring morning- the best time to be at the Outerbanks. The inside of the house was so clean and comfortable, the 5 of us felt immediately at home. The house was clean and well equipped. We could walk less than 5 minutes and be in the State Park right on the shore of the Sound, or take a short walk to the ocean where we actually saw a whale! Thanks for a most memorable stay. We’ll be back!

We had a wonderful stay at Toad Hall in the Outer Banks, and the entire experience was seamless thanks to Megan and Cola Vaughan. Megan was especially responsive, answering all of my questions quickly and making everything easy from start to finish. The house itself was spotless and incredibly inviting—perfect for a relaxing getaway that felt almost like stepping back in time. Its location couldn’t be better, steps away from the Sound and within walking distance to the Ocean and overlooking Jockey’s Ridge State Park; we loved watching kite gliders from the decks. The kitchen was well appointed, and we enjoyed cooking several great meals during our stay. Having visited the Outer Banks in all seasons, I especially appreciate the slower, more peaceful pace of spring, fall, and even winter for a true escape. I’ve rented many vacation homes over the years, but have never slept better—the beds were incredibly comfortable, and I loved waking each morning to the sound of birds.

It is the best rental ever! Every night we go to jockey ridge and watch the sunset. The bay is only a short walk and the house is incredible!

Toad Hall is just a wonderful vacation home. Unique and vintage Nags Head, we thoroughly enjoyed its location, and how well it is maintained. We met the owner, she was charming and gave us a brief history of the house and the architect and his family that built it- really fascinating, lots of character and attention to historic detail, we were particularly amazed by the fireplace/ hearth/ mantle- just beautiful! Will definately rent again!
