Egret's Nest
- 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms in Nags Head, NC

Availability and Booking

Description ↑↓

The Egret's Nest is waterfront on the Roanoke Sound and adjoins the 500 acre Jockey's Ridge State Park. Fronting on arguably the most beautiful stretch of sound-shore beach of the entire Outer Banks, the Egret's Nest is a great location for wind-surfers, kayakers, hang-gliders and bird-watchers. The Sound shore near the Egrets Nest is a great place for kids to play (and parents relax). The shallow sound waters don't have the currents and waves of the ocean and we never have "red flag" days! The location of the Egrets Nest is one of the best wind-surfing launch sites on the entire east coast. It's also a great spot for small sailboats. Vacationers will enjoy the quiet and privacy of the Egrets Nest location. While the site has no adjacent neighbor to the south, the vast open waters of the Roanoke Sound to the west, and nearly a mile of Jockey's Ridge State Park to the north and east: it is shared by the Austin residence as shown on the site plan. The Egrets Nest is attached by a small ten foot common wall to the Austin's private residence. The pier and driveway are shared. The parking and entrance are separate and private.

Perfect location for a pooch

This rental met all my expectations. The location can’t be beat if you’re traveling with a fur-iend. My dog, Logan, and I had a wonderful time walking in Jockey’s Ridge every day and the access to the sandbar beach can’t be beat! It was much safer than the oceanside for introducing him to water (which he now loves). He really enjoyed seeing the landlady’s dogs everyday too and even went walking with them by the end of the week. As a woman traveling alone, it was nice to have people on the property that you knew by name. I also appreciated that the apartment didn’t feel like an antiseptic rental property, but more like you were staying at a friend’s house. Made for a very relaxing visit. Logan and I definitely want to return for another stay.

This is the best location in Nag’s Head. Just steps to the Jockey’s Ridge sound access, it is an ideal place to swim, kayak, stroll, or just look at the water. The deck is peaceful and gets a great Sound breeze. The interior is very well equipped. I can’t wait to go back.

This house is literally the best location we could have asked for – right on the sound next to Jockey’s Ridge. Easy to walk out and swim and lounge on the soundside beach. Gorgeous patio and views of the sound. The interior and furniture may feel a bit old if you’re looking for sleek accommodations, and the internet connection didn’t work in every room – but the location and patio more than make up for it. The house shares a wall with the owners of the house, who were super nice and not at all intrusive. Highly recommend this property! We look forward to returning.

This place was amazing. It shares a wall with the main house (kitchen I think), and you’ll see the owner watering her flowers or taking the dogs out, but otherwise you wouldn’t know (and she’s super lovely and all the flowers are gorgeous). It sits directly on the sound, and you and your pups can catch amazing sunsets and enjoy your morning coffee (don’t give the dogs coffee though) on the deck and start your day with listening to the sounds of the water. You can admire the hummingbirds, butterflies, and a variety of sea birds as well. The accommodations were lovely and had both the charm of a beach house and the nostalgia of your grandma’s home with the antique furniture and decor. You can walk over to jockeys ridge sound entrance and hang out there, or drive a short distance for beach access. Walk to mulligans or The Blue Moon Cafe. And don’t forget to check out the house that is literally IN the water as you take a morning stroll. Loved my stay here. Only regret was they I didn’t have more time…truly much needed rejuvenating and relaxing week!
