The events is sponsored and put together by Kitty Hawk Kites and the Jockey’s Ridge Crossing team. The two groups have gathered their resources and creativity to bring an alluring event to the local community.

Santa Claus Meet and Greet

Kites with Lights is an uncommon kind of event with some common holiday-themes. At its core is a meet-and-greet with the one and only Saint Nick.

Santa Claus will be hanging out, interacting with kids, and passing out treats and gifts. Santa’s elves will also be found- will you be able to find them all?

The Santa Claus meet and greet is completely free. You can take as many photographs as you would like. It will likely be less formal than a paid location at a photo booth or mall.

Santa Claus is expected to gather and walk around the premises at his own discretion. This gives you and your family an opportunity to really see what Santa is all about! There will also be a dedicated photo location underneath the fall sky.

What’s in the Sky?

The name of the event comes from the addition of hundreds of kites which soar across the sky above Nag’s Head. The kites are prepared with holiday lights, and the kite flyers synchronize their lights in certain patterns.

Once they are airborne, the result is a dizzying display of beauty floating over the Outer Banks. The kites can be seen for many miles, right up until around the time the sun sets for the evening.

These are not your typical kites. Most of the kites span at least 20 feet, and some are a bit over 30 feet, with the lights being very visible and incredible to behold.

What’s on the Ground?

As kites glow over the sky, many activities will be happening on the ground. The festivities officially began at 10am on Friday November 24th and 1pm on Saturday November 25th.

This will include cocoa and cookies – and they are not just for Santa. Holiday treats and pastries will be for sale, directly supporting the Beach Food Pantry.

A Toys for Tots registrar will be open as well. You can commit to getting a gift for a family this season. Many items will be for sale supporting the local community. Christmas apparel, trinkets, decorations, and other items can be found from Kitty Hawk Kites.
