Five Ways to Celebrate the Fourth Of July on the Outer Banks

There’s no better place to celebrate Independence Day than along North Carolina’s scenic Outer Banks. In this post we’d like to focus on five events scheduled for July 4, 2016. Each offers plenty of fun for all ages.

If you’re going to be in or near Nags Head on the 4th then you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy an amazing 20 minute fireworks display at sundown. The event will be held at the Nags Head Fishing Pier located at milepost 11.5 on the beach road. Local law enforcement will manage parking for this event. For a full day of fun, plan to watch the fireworks from nearby Jockey’s Ridge State Park, which offers plenty of other activities to enjoy during the daylight hours

Kill Devil Hills is also offering a firework show, at the Avalon fishing pier located at milepost six on the beach road. This is a great option if you simply want to enjoy a great visual display starting at dusk without other events.

For an all-out day of festivities, drive up to Duck on the 4th. This year’s activities will kick off at 9 AM with the annual Independence Day parade followed by a community-wide celebration at Duck Town Park. Attractions will include live music, food and beverages, arts and craft displays, and plenty of activities just for the kids. The event wraps up at 5 o’clock, giving attendees plenty of time to find a great spot to view one of the nearby fireworks shows.

Manteo’s 2016 Independence Day celebration will feature a wacky hat competition, awards for the best decorated bike, and apple pie tastings. Then, as the sun goes down at night, the skies will light up with a pyrotechnic display celebrating the nation’s 240th birthday.

Corolla will hold its 24th annual Independence Day celebration beginning at noon with food vendors, kid’s games, a watermelon eating contest, arts and craft displays, and other events. Live music will kick off at 5 PM with the Tidewater Drive Band. The festivities will reach their climax at dusk with an awe-inspiring firework show you won’t soon forget. This is an alcohol-free celebration for the entire family. One thing is for sure about the Fourth of July: all that fun can wear you out, making you long for a quiet, comfortable place to get a good night’s rest.
