The Egret's Nest is waterfront on the Roanoke Sound and adjoins the 500 acre Jockey's Ridge State Park. Fronting on arguably the most beautiful stretch of sound-shore beach of the entire Outer Banks, the Egret's Nest is a great location for wind-surfers, kayakers, hang-gliders and bird-watchers.
The Sound shore near the Egrets Nest is a great place for kids to play (and parents relax). The shallow sound waters don't have the currents and waves of the ocean and we never have "red flag" days! The location of the Egrets Nest is one of the best wind-surfing launch sites on the entire east coast. It's also a great spot for small sailboats. 'Vacationers will enjoy the quiet and privacy of the Egrets Nest location. While the site has no adjacent neighbor to the south, the vast open waters of the Roanoke Sound to the west, and nearly a mile of Jockey's Ridge State Park to the north and east: it is shared by the Austin residence as shown on the site plan. The Egrets Nest is attached by a small ten foot common wall to the Austin's private residence. The pier and driveway are shared. The parking and entrance are separate and private.Egret

DIRECTIONS

The Egrets Nest is located at 3944 West Soundside Road in Nags Head near the Roanoke Sound at the 13 mile Post. The cottage is just a few steps from the Estuarine Access to Jockeys Ridge State Park. Coming from the North; Soundside Road is the first street South of the Jockeys Ridge Cross-Walk light at about the 12.9 mile post The cross-walk light is located where the sand-dune comes closest to US 158, Croatan Highway. Turn west on Soundside Road and drive towards the Sound about .4 mile. The Egrets Nest driveway is on the right in the curve just beyond the Estuarine Access.. From the South; Soundside Road is the first street past the traffic light at Deering Street ( the Nags Head Post Office is on this intersection on the North-West corner at about the 13.4 mile post. The white Nags Head Baptist Church is on the corner of West Soundside. Looking North you can see the Jockeys Ridge cross-walk light. Turn left (west) onto West Soundside. The Egret's Nest is .4 mile on the left.
